Subject: Shimmy sequence is incredible
Subject: Shimmy sequence is incredible
Sound is above average.
Rock Candy > Svenghali - Some cool start/stop jamming in Rock Candy, with some neat minimal playing from Barber and angel choir from Magner. The first half of this jam is decent, but after a while they start meandering. Barber comes up with a really cool riff at 13:41, and again at 18:06, but other than that there's not a whole lot that's memorable.
Spraypaint - Standard.
Shimmy > AC2B (><) > Shimmy > Pilin - Wow. The jam out of Shimmy is absolutely GORGEOUS. Love it. Perfect segue into AC2B middle. "2nd" jam in AC2B doesn't really go anywhere the first few minutes, but they settle into a really really cool house jam which has Magner/Barber written all over it. Good, good stuff. The jam out of AC2B and into Shimmy is absolutely fantastic. I can't stress enough how each of the first three jams in this segment are other-worldly. WOW WOW WOW. The jam out of Shimmy takes the mood of this segment and turns it on its head with a really dark evil jam that's also fantastic. Can't get enough of this segment. Jam into the ending is awesome, and then rather than actually ending it, they do a pretty weird drop into a real quick breakbeat jam so that they can get into Pilin' it Higher. Kind of a cop-out, but at this point they could have stopped playing and I would still be crying tears of good music. The jam in Pilin' is quite lovely, in a very strange way. Sort of like a blissful jam if the blissful jam had been tripping. Cool stuff, and the drop back into the song is nothing to shake a fist at, either.
Wow. What a great segment.
Buddha > 42 (><) > Rock Candy - Jam out of Buddha starts out with some really great dark trance. Magner is again playing well. There are a lot of different themes here, but there seems to be some strange consistency. The consistency seems to be dark, evil Biscuits. Barber sounds great here throughout. Somehow they morph seamlessly into some really uplifting happy stuff here as they get closer to 42. And then...ugh. Inverted 42. Feels even longer than regular 42. The jam out of 42 starts getting a little repetitive, though I love the guitar riff that Barber starts playing at 14:38. Very minimal, but perfect. Barber's minimal guitarwork here actually saves this jam from boringness, and becomes fairly enjoyable just because of him. From there, it turns into a straighahead trance jam that's bouncy and really catchy, back into Rock Candy.
Another very very good segment, save the 9 minutes of 42's composition.
Lai - This jam isn't bad, but it doesn't really seem to go anywhere. Parts are good, parts are boring.
Confro > Buddha > Confro - Good jam out of Confro. Everybody is just locked in here and cruising along at 140 bpm. Magner adds some cool layers here and there, and Brownie has a really driving bassline. The switch to Buddha seems to come out of nowhere. The jam out of Buddha begins very subdued, and the whole band seems content just riding out the laid back house groove they've got going for a while. More often than not I don't really like these jams, because they get boring after a little bit, but Barber plays some pretty interesting lines here without sounding like he's just wanking. As they get closer to Confrontation, the jam picks up in both intensity and interestingness. Before they switch back to the major key, they've got some really cool stuff going on. The Confrontation peak is well done.
Spectacle > Buddha - Pretty typical trance jam out of Spectacle and into the Buddha ending. Not bad, not great. Just average-good Biscuits. Gets better as it gets near Buddha.
Shimmy > AC2B (><) > Shimmy > Pilin', Buddha > 42 > Rock Candy, Confro > Buddha > Confro. Good overall show. The Shimmy sequence is incredible, and the other two are solid. 5 stars. There were a few throwaway jams here, but that Shimmy segment plus a couple very solid segments, for me, equals 5 stars.

This show is highly, highly underrated. IMO, the best biscuits show in a lot of ways...patient jamming, amazing setlist, the guys were on fire. Solid transitions, very, very tight playing. No flubbs. Decent sound for an aud. I would most definitely recommend this one.

I'm a Mishawaka veteran... I've been to A LOT of shows up there. This one was definitely FANTASTIC!!!
I DL'd it today and listened to the first disc in my car this afternoon. For an audience recording, it's solid. Mids are a little high and there's some dumb girl talking through part of it (quitely), otherwise it's sweet to hear it! I was really stoked to see that somebody taped this.
THANK YOU!!!

The Biscuits always seem to bring their best to Mishawaka, and this show backs it up. From the 21 min Rock Candy to open, to the 5 song encore, this show rages with energy.
The main highlight for me is the Shimmy > AC2B (inverted!) > Shimmy > Pilin it High. The peak in Shimmy is so dark, so intense!
Of course, the Buddha > 42 > Rock Candy isn't too shabby either. And the sound quality is fantastic. A pair of 61's in the right hands can be magical.
Bottom line: Download this show.
